Before setting up email clients (phone, Outlook app, etc.) you must login to the webmail portal and complete registration for multi-factor authentication (aka MFA or 2FA). This will require a PC/Mac with internet access, and your phone (just for 2FA verification, not under MDM).
- On a PC, open a web browser and type email.musson.com in the address bar, which will redirect you to our webmail login.
- Enter your full email address (first initial + last name, i.e. CLarson@musson.com)
- If asked, select "Work or school account" (occurs if you have a personal Microsoft account with Musson email)
- Enter the temporary password provided to you (i.e. Abc12345)
- Next, we need to register your primary two-factor authentication method
- On the PC, click "Next" through several dialogs until a QR code is shown (like image below)
- On your phone, install/open Microsoft Authenticator app
- Click "+" icon in the upper-right
- Select "Work or School account"
- Select "Scan QR Code" and point at your PC screen
- Account should be added automatically
- Back on the PC, click "Next" to test your just added account.
- On your phone, look for a notification from Microsoft Authenticator, -or- open the app
- Click "Approve" on the popup to confirm the added account works
- Having Issues?
- Use a personal Microsoft account? Try in an incognito browser tab.
- Check phone settings for notifications. While Authenticator *should* work without them, it's best practice to enable.
- ChrisL/Michael can also reset 2FA/MFA methods and passwords.
- Next, we need to register your backup authentication method
- On the PC, click "Next" after confirming Microsoft Authenticator works (above step)
- Please enter a personal email address and click "Next", which will email a 6-digit code
- Alternatively, use a co-worker's email (can't be your Musson email)
- In the next step, enter the 6-digit code from the email to confirm.
- Once confirmed, click "Done" to finish multi-factor registration (almost done!)
- Please enter a personal email address and click "Next", which will email a 6-digit code
- Finally, you'll need to create a new password. This is mainly set-and-forget, so stronger is preferred (password does not expire)
- On the PC, enter the temporary password you used at the start of this process.
- New password must meet complexity requirements. Error messages should hint at the problem.
- Once changed, you'll be redirected to the webmail login portal.
- Webmail provides immediate access to email, and advanced settings like rules and vacation messages.
- You're finished with initial email setup! Check links below for further reading.
